Things went a little different than planned. Our room's musky stench and questionable bedding wasn't really how we imagined the weekend beginning (I was really glad when Michael pulled blankets out of his car the way magicians do with top hats and bunnies).
The goal now was to find something to occupy our time, until we had to go to bed. It started with an hour in Smiths trying, only to purchase goldfish and a 99 cent pair of red ankle socks for the bowling alley. Bowling and ice cream soon became the solution to our problem.
The next day we woke up and got ready while watching Children of the Corn. Which if you have never seen, (because I hadn't) is remarkably strange and disturbing. Of all the scary movies I have seen (which total about 5) this one was one of the easier ones to laugh at with Michael. I'm still not sure how it ends though. I'd like to believe the main characters escaped the psycho children, and then found them all really good therapists.
We checked out of the motel, and discovered that we needed a reservation to swim in the crater. The next available time wasn't for 8 hours! It was probably the most frustrating part of our trip because it was the sole reason we went, and prior obligations made it impossible for us to wait that long.
We eventually found ourselves in Park City browsing art galleries and learning really cool things about Lake Baikal (the largest fresh water lake on earth!) visiting the bookstore, and finding a comfortable bench to sit on in Main Street. I started reading a new novel and Michael put down his thoughts into words. It was one of those moments I wish I could bottle and take with me. The weather was perfect, and evidence of the seasons changing was all around me.
It wasn't what we planned. Is it ever? We somehow manage to make it work, even if we temporarily drive each other nuts!
I hope you are enjoying fall, and this beautiful play outside weather.
